Cell Technology
Cells are graded before they are built, because the pack can never be better than its worst cell.
Cells from the same production batch are not identical. Capacity varies, internal resistance varies, and a pack assembled from an unsorted mix spends its whole life with the BMS working against that spread.
Intake and grading
- 01 Capacity test Each cell is charged and discharged to measure actual capacity against its rating.
- 02 Internal resistance IR is measured because it determines how much a cell heats under load and how it sags at high current.
- 03 Batch sorting Cells are grouped into bands so a pack is built from cells that behave alike.
- 04 Series set matching The set that goes into one pack is matched to itself, not merely to a specification.
Format selection
Cylindrical
Suits packs where airflow between cells matters and where a failure should stay contained to one cell.
Prismatic
Packs more energy into a fixed rectangular battery bay, at the cost of less airflow between cells.
